5 Fun Ways to Stay Active

admin - August 21, 2013

fun ways to stay active

When we talk about exercising regularly, we’re not just talking about things like using a treadmill or an elliptical. There are so many fun activities that don’t fall into the “exercise” category – yet they still involve movement. So if you’re feeling burnt out or tired of your regular workout routine, why not switch it up? As long as you’re moving, you’re benefiting your health.

Here are a few ways to stay active and have fun at the same time:

Swimming

August is one of the hottest months of the year, making it a prime time to enjoy a soothing swim. But don’t just float around – keep moving in the water to burn calories and strengthen your muscles and joints. Swimming is a fun and refreshing low-impact form of exercise that is great for your body.

Yoga

Even if you’ve never tried yoga before, you may want to consider it. There are different types of yoga that suit different people. Most yoga studios offer various levels of difficulty, as well. Yoga is a low-intensity form of exercise that helps you to stretch and stay active. It has been seen to improve circulation, muscle strength and it even helps some people sleep better.

Playing with Grandkids

Staying active doesn’t have to be all about different forms of exercise. Simply being around your active grandkids as they play outdoors can keep you moving. Try a trip to the park or a round of miniature golf. You can be outside enjoying the sunshine, making memories with your grandkids and staying active.

Walking

This is one you’ve probably dabbled in before. Instead of resorting to that indoor treadmill, take it outside. Walk around the neighborhood, or drive to a different area of town, park your car and walk there. Switch it up so you don’t get bored with the same scenery and routine.

Biking

Similar to walking, riding a bike is great exercise, but it can get boring if you’re riding around the same places. Drive somewhere new, like a nearby metro park or neighboring town, and hop on your bike there. To keep exercise fresh and fun, don’t ride around the same location over and over again – you’re bound to get burnt out.

What is your favorite form of exercise, and how do you keep it from getting stagnant? We’d love to hear. Share with us in the comments below!
