September is Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month

admin - September 11, 2014

Atrial fibrillation, or afib, is the most common type of heart arrhythmia and affects 2.7 million Americans. Afib causes a rapid and irregular heartbeat, sometimes causing the heart to beat faster than 200 times per minute.

Having this condition can lead to a negative impact on an individual’s quality of life, causing chronic fatigue and pain in addition to increasing the risk for stroke and heart disease.

During Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month, Life Line Screening is working to increase public knowledge of afib, including symptoms, risk factors, warning signs and treatment.
